Privacy policy

Jonogoner Kotha is an independent website where people in Bangladesh publish an opinion. We are not a government office and not a newsroom.

This notice is how we handle personal information. We follow Article 39 and Article 43 of the Constitution, and the Personal Data Protection Act, 2026. The parts of that Act about complaints and penalties start only when the government notifies a date. Until then, write to us on the contact page and we will answer.

If you sign in, the provider you choose gives us your email, your name and, if you allow it, a photo. We never show the email. On each opinion you choose whether readers see your name, and whether they see the photo.

You may also add a profession, an organisation, a link and a district. We store the opinions, comments, likes, reading list and reports you make. For security we keep the internet address of a sign-in or a report for at most 90 days. We do not ask for a national identity number, a phone number or a home address.

We use it to run your account, to publish what you asked us to publish, to moderate, and to stop abuse. We do not sell information. We do not show advertisements, and we do not build an advertising profile of you.

The cookies we set are listed on the cookie page. They keep you signed in and remember the language. We do not set analytics or advertising cookies. Your theme, the order of the feed and an unsent draft stay in this browser. They are not sent to us until you submit.

Moderators can see the real author of an opinion even when readers cannot. That is how a decision can be explained to you.

The sign-in provider handles the sign-in on its own site. Cloudflare checks that a form was sent by a person. We send it a token, not the text of your opinion. The site and its database are hosted in Singapore.

If an authority in Bangladesh makes a request, we ask that it be specific and lawful. We keep a record of it, and we disclose only what that request covers.

The servers are in Singapore, outside Bangladesh. The Personal Data Protection Act still covers information about people in Bangladesh. We apply the same limits there as we describe on this page.

We keep the account until you delete it from your settings. Deleting it removes the sign-in link, replaces the email and the name, and drops the photo. You choose whether opinions that were already published stay up without your name, or come down.

Internet addresses in the security log are not kept past 90 days. A moderation decision stays in the log, because we promised a record of every decision.

You can see and change your name, photo and profile in your settings, and you can delete the account there. For a copy of what we hold, or a correction you cannot make yourself, use the contact page. We do not charge for that.

When the authority under the Personal Data Protection Act is open for complaints, you may complain there as well.

This site is written for adults. We do not knowingly keep an account for a child. If you are a parent and you believe we have, write to us and we will delete it.

We will change this page when the law or the site changes, and we will put the new date at the top.
